Stick Length

The correct length for your Floorball stick is determined by a combination of your height, position and playing style. An easy rule deciding which length to use is that the top of the stick should reach your belly button or 1 to 2 inches above it. A short stick will give increased ball control and allow for quick movement around the court. A longer stick will give more power on wrist and slap shots and increased ability to poke check the ball away from an attacker. Consequently, attacking players tend to use shorter sticks than defenders. Below is a simple chart for determining approximate stick length based on your height.

Height / Shaft Length
4’3” and under (130 cm) / 27.6” (70 cm)
4’3” - 4’9” (130 - 145 cm) / 29.5” (75 cm)
4’9” - 5’1” (145 - 155 cm) / 31.5” (80 cm)
5’1” - 5’5” (155 - 165 cm) / 34.3” (87 cm)
5’5” - 5’8” (165 - 175 cm) / 35.8” (91 cm)
5’8” - 6’3” (175 - 190 cm) / 37.4” - 39.4" (95 - 100 cm)
6’3” and over (190 cm +) / 39.4” (100 cm)

Blade

The stiffness of the blade influences ball control, passing accuracy and shooting power. A soft HDPE blade is easier to shape and form enabling you to perform those air tricks! A soft blade also increases ball handling ability and shooting and passing accuracy. A hard PA blade provides more power to shots and passes.

Shaft Flex

The flex is a measure of the stiffness of the shaft. A lower number results is a stiffer shaft. The strength, position and technique of the player largely determines what is the most suitable shaft flex. Typical shaft flexes for males players range from 28 mm to 23 mm. Top level female players most often use 32 mm to 26 mm flex shafts. It is recommended that junior players play with a shaft flex of 30 mm and below.

Shaft Profile

This is the shape of the shaft and is largely determined by personal preference alone. Oval and square shafts most closely resemble a hockey shaft shape. Half semi oval provides the oval shape for the top third of the shaft only.

Shoots Right The left hand is located on the top of the shaft and the right hand is positioned lower down on the shaft. Shooting is performed to the right side of the body.

Shoots Left The right hand is located on the top of the shaft and the left hand is positioned lower down on the shaft. Shooting is performed to the left side of the body.

Shaft The stick shaft is the base in the construction and decides the performance of the stick.

Flex The stick flex is measured in millimeters (mm), and describes how much a shaft bends with a load of 300N, 800 mm between supports. A lower number results in a stiffer shaft. The stiffest flex certified by the IFF is 23 mm.

Blade The blade is made of plastic and transfers the power of the shaft into the blade. The blade is a large part of the performance of a stick and therefore one of the most important parts. The blade can be curved to fit all imaginable playing styles.

FORBA a scaled down version of Floorball, most often played 2-on-2 or 3-on-3 with no goalies and smaller goals. There are no official rules for Forba and play is adapted to whatever suits the situation. Forba is most popular as a co-ed recreational game played amongst friends or co-workers.

Rebound Measures how fast a shaft straightens up after bending (gathering power) to the floor. The faster rebound (mid, fast or superfast) - the more powerful the shot.

Profile The shaft profile explains the shape of the shaft, round, oval, semi-oval, or ½ semi oval.

Shaft length The shaft length is measured from the end cap (top of the shaft) to the lower part of the shaft, approximately 40 mm down into the blade.

Total length The length of the entire stick including both the shaft and blade.

Weight Total weight of the stick including shaft, grip and blade.

Nepol Trade name for polypropylene plastic with long glass fiber reinforcement. A light yet highly durable plastic for use in Floorball equipment.
